How to create and edit own video

Creating and editing your own video is easier than what you think.  It does take some time, especially if you are new to it, but it is rewarding.  We will briefly walk you through the steps needed for the best video shooting and editing experience.

The type of video

There are many kinds of videos that you can film.  You can make a movie, a documentary, a walkthrough, or a presentation.  Or maybe you will be using it as a marketing support.  Decide which type is yours going to be. Once you know what you will be doing, is it a good idea to draw a script.  You do not need to have amazing drawing skills, you just need to have an idea of what it is that you are going to do in a visible way.

Gather your gear

Yes, I know it sounds expensive, but the truth is that all you need is a camera, good lighting, and you are all set to start shooting like a pro.  One very important thing is to make sure that, wherever you are shooting, you are sound-free.  Lock yourself in your room if it is some explanatory video.  Now, if you are shooting an outdoor video, then you can actually have your audience enjoy the sounds of nature and everything in your surrounding.  It will help create a good ambient on your video, in fact.

You can also use your cellphone’s camera.  We do strongly suggest you do not go cheap on this one if you still want to have a quality video.  There are pretty good cell phone cameras out there;  they have even been used to shoot short films.  The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8+’s camera have a 12.2 MP resolution with optimal image stabilizer.  This is the same resolution offered by the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus.  The Samsung phones allow you to insert a memory card to add in as many videos as your card can hold.  You can also get the Google Pixel XL and the Google Pixel which both have a 12.3 MP resolution.

Video editing

So now you are down to editing your video, trimming here and pasting there, adding music, macros, images, captions, text overlays, etc.  Although this step sounds daunting, it does not really have to be. If you are using a pc, your computer came with MovieMaker, or you have iMovie if you have a MacBook.

There are other great video editing tools that you can use. Here is a list of some of them:

• YouTube editing tool.  YouTube offers a pretty intuitive tool for you to edit your videos before publishing them.  It is easy to use.  The only thing is that it stays edited only for YouTube.  So use this editing tool if you will publish your video on YouTube only.
• Corel Video Studio.  This is a professional tool, very intuitive and with amazing features.
• Adobe Premiere has at least two very good products you could use.
• Apple Final Cut.  The truth is that the MacBook does not really have that many amazing features.  But you can upgrade your MacBook to this product.  The catch: it is pretty pricey.
